Directed by Ken Loach, who also directed The Wind that Shakes the Barley (depicting revolutionary struggle in Ireland), It's a Free World takes a Brechtian approach to the story of a British woman struggling to make her employment agency operate, whilst exploiting underemployed workers throughout Europe, engaging with illegal immigrants out of a conflicted greed and sense of charity.

The preview, falsely, renders this as a movie about a woman's struggle to control her work force, and all the hijinks involved. It deals to some extent with a lack of choices, a flattening of alternatives, and those who are exploited in the process.
